History: Designed in reply to criticism against the North Carolina class in reference to their inadequate protection versus their installed weaponry, these ships had a greatly improved armor layout, but sacrificed length to achieve their designed treaty weight. While these ships were quite cramped, especially with the addition of wartime complements and added anti-aircraft weaponry, these warships could be considered the best "treaty battleships" built in the world. They had a decent speed, well positioned armor and excellent weaponry and fire control
